On May 14, Liz Bateman of Mathews was invested as a Chevalieresse into the Grand Priory of the Holy Isle of the Knights Templar of the United States of America. A charitable organization that is both a religious and secular Christian ecumenical order, the organization provides scholarships to Christians in the Holy Land as well as other charitable causes such as The Lonesome Dove Equestrian Center. Based in Powhatan County, the center provides year-round therapeutic horse riding and lessons for veterans, ranging from their 20s to their 90s, free of charge.
