The Court House Players has a busy summer ahead, with two regular productions and two children’s productions scheduled.
“Crickets on a Hill,” a musical by Judy Ward about the Battle of Cricket Hill, will be presented in conjunction with the Mathews County Historical Museum at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 30 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 1 at Mathews High School.
The show tells the story of the battle that definitively ended British civil rule over Virginia—when Lord Dunmore, the last colonial governor, was defeated by the 7th Virginia Cavalry led by General Andrew Lewis. It also tells the fictional story of a young colonist who is torn between his duty to England and his love of America. The music has been arranged and orchestrated by David Shuber.
