A busy Election Day is coming Tuesday; many local races on ballot

The 2023 election season comes to a close next week, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Only one statewide race on this year’s local ballot is competitive—that for the Senate of Virginia’s 26th District seat, with two candidates vying for the seat. The Virginia House of Delegates’ 68th District seat has one unopposed candidate, the incumbent, while residents in two precincts in Gloucester—Hayes and Sarahs Creek—will be electing an unopposed candidate for membership in the House of Delegates’ 69th District.
Ballots for both Gloucester and Mathews have two pages. All Gloucester residents have 16 total candidates for state, constitutional, at-large board of supervisors, at-large school board, and soil and water board positions, while voters in the Ware and Abingdon districts have four additional district candidates each, and the Gloucester Point district has three additional district candidates.
