Family and friends of Frances Virginia Diggs wouldn’t let rainy weather or even a global pandemic stop them from celebrating her 90th birthday on Saturday. Over 65 vehicles made the trip from Zion Baptist Church to her home in Cardinal, where the birthday girl (who turned 90 several days before, on Tuesday, Oct. 6) greeted her loved ones. Born at Woods Cross Roads, Mrs. Diggs has lived in Mathews ever since she was married. Her youngest son and grandchildren kicked off the parade as the high-stepping marching band. The parade included over 12 motorcycles, sporty Mustangs, and a Corvette. The grand finale was a tribute from her children (Robert, Ronald and Roger Diggs and Annette Wilson), in a classic 1968 Dodge Monaco, driven by her eldest son. This car belonged to her late husband, Robert E. Diggs. Among those taking part were members of the Final Destination Motorcycle Club, the Hard Riders Motorcycle Club (Hampton chapter), the Rev.
