Mathews County’s Superintendent of Schools Dr. David S. Daniel shared some good news at the conclusion of last Thursday’s special budget meeting and before the town hall that followed.
Pam Hudgins, Coordinator of Gifted and Federal Programs for the division, has stepped up to fill a vacancy in eighth grade math at Thomas Hunter Middle School in advance of this spring SOL test.
The departure of a teacher in that class in February raised concerns which had been addressed at the school board’s meeting earlier in the month. In addition to Hudgins coming forward to take on this added duty, a retired teacher from Gloucester will be incorporated into the mix to provide additional support.
“At long last, [the division has] somewhat of a sustainable plan … for now,” said Daniel. “It’s far from ideal,” he added, labeling it “the least bad decision.”
