73 original works in RAL exhibits

Seventy-three original works are showcased in two new May exhibits at the RAL Art Center on Main Street in Kilmarnock.
“Sky’s the Limit” consists of 41 original works including paintings, photography, fiber, art glass and sculpture created by member artists, while “Art in Transit,” a cooperative art contest organized by RAL Art Center and Bay Transit, consists of 32 entries.
Pam Doss, executive director of the Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews, judged “Sky’s the Limit,” presenting awards at the First Friday reception held on May 5. First place went to “Before the Storm,” an oil painting by Maria Whitehead. Doss praised the painting for its balanced composition, skilled brush strokes, and color that “perfectly captured” an impending storm.
The second-place winner was Juli Schuszler’s oil painting “Reaching Out,” and third place went to “Mangrove Sunrise,” a soft pastel by Mel Neal. Honorable mentions went to “Red Sky at Night,” a photograph by Harold Burnley; “Cruising Attitud...
