Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church, Cobbs Creek, celebrated the 70th wedding anniversary of Evelyn and Thomas Edwards on April 13. The church presented them with a quilt made by church members using squares on which church members inscribed their congratulations and best wishes. Tom and Evelyn, along with Evelyn’s sister Betty and her husband Billy, were married in a double ceremony on April 16, 1955, in what were the first weddings in the rebuilt Mathews Chapel after a fire burned it to the ground.
