65 units collected at Mathews blood drive

The American Red Cross Mathews community blood drive, held on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the Piankatank Ruritan Club, Hudgins, resulted in the collection of 65 units, according to Red Cross volunteer Nan Cross.
A total of 73 potential donors attended the drive, with 11 deferrals, two unable to give a sufficient quantity and seven making double-red donations.
Gallon pins were presented to Deena Waddell (10 gallons), Joseph Allen (eight gallons), Patricia Wood (four gallons), Diane Vogel (two gallons) and William Miller (one gallon).
Monica Chadwell was the only first-time donor. Giving for the first time in Mathews were Corian Carney, Cecilia Marshall, Jam Morgan Jr., Sandi Petty, Nicola Rooney, Pam Shafer, Kristin Terelli, David Walsh and Dan Walters
