The Mathews Yacht Club announced last week its continued collaboration with the Mathews Family YMCA “to ensure that our youth stay safe—and have fun—on the water this summer,” a MYC release stated.
The organizations are working together to offer swimming lessons and sailing camps, both of which are taught through the Mathews Family YMCA and are held at the Mathews Yacht Club on Stutts Creek.
Sixty-five children, ages 8 to 15, are enrolled in the 2024 YMCA Youth Sailing Camp. While the sailing program is taught by YMCA staff, members of MYC volunteer to assist with the program.
The program has been held at the Mathews Yacht Club since 2019. Boats were donated by MYC members and local residents, and are owned by MYC.
Swim lessons, taught by YMCA staff, are held at MYC’s pool. There are 28 participants this year, ages 3 to 12.The Mathews Family YMCA has held swimming lessons at the Mathews Yacht Club since 2011.
