The Mathews High School Brass Band appeared in parades and at football games in 1964. Directed by faculty member August Sieben, the members included drum major Sharon Brown, in front, and left column, front to back, Rita Cannon, Bryon Thomas, Kathy German, Billy Walker and Jeannie Hudgins; second column, Rachel Cannon, Beverly Gayle, Deborah Hudgins and Marshall Smith; third column, Galen Lemmon, Katherine Hudgins, Marvin Lee Carmean and Robert Lynn Soles; fourth column, Skipper Garrison, Lois Garrison, Jane Howlett, Ruth Ann Cannon and Roberta Respess. Not shown are members Dottie Foster, Helen Bing, and Joyce Faye Owens.
