Five members of the Mathews High School varsity state championship softball team made the VHSL All-State squad, the Virginia High School League announced Wednesday morning.
The Lady Devils’ coach Robert Thomas also earned the state’s Coach of the Year honors.
Earning first-team All-State honors were pitcher Madison South, shortstop Keely Crittenden and outfielder Kirsten Beatley, all of whom graduated on June 17.
Earning second-team honors were catcher Lexie Miles, also a graduate, and second baseman Caroline Crittenden, who is a rising junior at MHS.
The Lady Devils captured their first state championship on June 10 with a victory over Holston.
