Family and friends filled the Harry M. Ward Auditorium Saturday morning to celebrate the accomplishments of the Mathews High School Class of 2024, as 59 seniors walked across the stage to receive their diplomas as they prepare for the next challenges in their lives.
Class president Lannah Callis welcomed everyone to the ceremony, announcing this year’s senior class gift—a picnic table, two Adirondack chairs and a swing that will be used in the courtyard by the gymnasium for students and staff to enjoy.
Salutatorian Libbie Hospodar reflected on the journey that brought her and her classmates to this pivotal moment. “We survived over a year of online learning and being in and out of the classroom, as well as one of the most competitive college application cycles in history.
“We have weathered the storms of academic challenges, embraced the joy of shared accomplishments, and forged lasting bonds of friendship,” she continued.
