William & Mary alumnus Dr. R. Todd Stravitz, Class of 1982, and the Brunckhorst Foundations have pledged a $50 million scholarship gift to provide full tuition support for students pursuing the new bachelor’s degree in coastal & marine sciences at the Batten School of Coastal & Marine Sciences and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. This is the largest scholarship in W&M’s history.
This gift coincides with W&M and the Batten School’s launch of Virginia’s first public undergraduate degree in coastal & marine sciences, recently approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
The first cohort of selected students will begin their studies this fall, kicking off with a soft launch of the major’s immersion semester in which students will take classes at the Batten School and VIMS campus.
