Mathews native Phyllis Miles Callis Hudgins enjoys life at home and in the community, considering herself a homemaker by profession, and a family member and friend to many in this area.
Notable is her 45 years of service at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital; Phyllis is a charter member of volunteers there, serving since the hospital, then named Walter Reed Memorial, opened in 1977.
At the hospital, Phyllis works each Monday and has accumulated approximately 9,200 hours of volunteer service, witnessing many changes over her 45 years of service. As a major renovation and addition took place in the last four years, Phyllis helped others navigate the new pathways.
She considers the hospital to be part of her family.
