29 boats compete in Poplar Neck Cobia Tournament

The seventh annual Poplar Neck Hunt Club Cobia Tournament was held on Saturday at Morningstar Marinas in Hudgins.
A total of 29 boats participated in this year’s event, according to event organizer Megan Ashberry Minor. The first-place winner was Captain Aaron Inge on his boat “Just Right” along with his crew, sponsored by Mark’s Glass. Weighing in two fish, their total fish weight was 70.6 pounds.
In addition to first-place winnings, they also won three different Calcutta categories, sending them home with a grand total of $9,220.
Second place went to Captain Adam Weaver on the boat Miss Mae. Total fish weight was 47.75 pounds and he won $1,050.
The third-place winner was Captain Jacob Love with his crew, who were sponsored by Swords Marine Service. This crew had a fish weight of 41.70 pounds, earning $650 in winnings.
There was also a Juniors category for those 15 and under. Hunter Horsley won that category, and the $400 top prize, for a fish weighing in at 20.65 pounds.
