25 GHS swimmers qualify for district meet

Gloucester High School swimmers wrapped up their 2010-2011 season last week. The GHS boys had a 3-9 record and the girls a 4-9 record, but the swimmers improved over time and won three big meets down the stretch.

The team beat Phoebus, 59-29 for the boys and 80-2 for the girls, and Heritage (71-18, boys; 78-10, girls), and pulled out an impressive win in their last meet with Bethel (63-28 for the boys and 49-44 for the girls).

Twenty-five of the 36 GHS team members have qualified for the Peninsula District Swim Meet scheduled for Saturday, said coach Dawn Clark. They include Holli Adams, Elaina Arsenovic, Michael Bendit, Logan Carrington, David Collins, Dreux Elliott II, Austin Farina, Carver Fisher, Libby Forehand and Elicia Franchini.

Also, Shelby Gwartney, Matt Heimburger, Matt Hendrix, Megan Hogge, Christian Kent, Kyle Mielnik, Allison Noah, Ethan Oberndorfer, Rebecca Schmitz, Stephen Sigmon, Abram Stokes, Austin White, Emily White, Kendall Worland and Dylan Wyco.
