Brian Crow of Richmond won the inaugural Gloucester County Educational Foundation 8K run sponsored Saturday by the foundation and the Peninsula Track Club. Crow, 36, finished the approximately five-mile course in 28:34.
The debut event drew 175 runners, with 61 of them signing up Saturday morning to take advantage of the near-perfect running conditions. The course took the runners from Gloucester High School through Ladysmeade subdivision, back up Short Lane into Dunston Hall subdivision and then back down to the finish line at GHS.
The run drew several compliments from participants, who found it well organized with friendly volunteers. Others remarked on the diversity of the participants, which included a sampling of all age groups with seasoned racers, recreational runners and first-time competitors.
