Janet and Benny Leigh to serve as grand marshals

Janet and Benjamin “Benny” Leigh of Gloucester have been selected as this year’s grand marshals for the Gloucester Daffodil Festival Parade, which is scheduled to step off from Main Street Center at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Benny was born and raised in Gloucester and helped operate his family’s store, Leigh’s Market, on Main Street until it closed in 1992. After that, he worked in the catering world for 15 years.
Janet joined the community in 1972 when she moved to the area to take a job with the Virginia Cooperative Extension as a family and consumer sciences agent, where she worked for 30 years. She attended the University of Kentucky where she earned her bachelor’s in home economics education and finished a management in family economics master’s program.
Community service and volunteer work is a big deal to the Leighs. They view it as a way to pay back the community for their decades of support of Leigh’s Market.
