11-year-old Gloucester girl qualifies for AAU Junior Olympics

An 11-year-old Gloucester County girl earned a spot in the 2024 AAU Junior Olympics following her performance in the AAU Region 5 Qualifier on June 26-29 at Todd Stadium in Newport News.
Olivia Quinn Hendricks placed fifth in the June qualifying race in the 1,500-meter run, finishing with a time of 6:06.18.Hendricks ran in both the 800-meter and the 1,500-meter runs at the Region 5 Qualifier after placing in the top 16 at the AAU Virginia Southern District Qualifier earlier that month at Hermitage High School. Although she missed qualifying for the 800-meter run by one one-thousandth of a second, she placed in the top five in the Region Qualifier in 1,500-meter run to move on to the 2024 AAU Junior Olympic Games.
Hendricks said that she was excited and nervous about qualifying for the Junior Olympics. She also said it still hadn’t quite hit her yet. She has been running for less than a year.
