Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda had one of its youngest racers ever compete at the track Saturday night. Macy Causey, 11, of Yorktown, took to the track in a full-size dirt car and gave the other racers a run for their money.
Causey ended up finishing 14th out of 20 Saturday night, and has her goals set high for the future.
Racing is in her blood, she said. According to Causey, her grandmother is the first female to win a NASCAR-sanctioned race at Langley Motor Speedway. Her dad, Rette Causey, also started racing and his company, CBX Modular Homes, serves as his daughter’s sponsor.
"I love to go fast," Macy Causey said, "and I love to travel a lot."
The sport, she said, isn’t all fun and games though. The time involved in practicing and traveling to racing events adds up. Almost every weekend is taken up and she said she sometimes has to be pulled out of school early to prepare to go to a race.
