Gloucester County recorded a total of nine new COVID-19 deaths this past week, and Mathews added two deaths, even as local and state case numbers continue to drop, according to figures from the Virginia Department of Health.
Since the VDH began tracking information last March, Gloucester has recorded a total of 43 COVID-related deaths, while Mathews has had 11.
Gloucester experienced 54 new COVID-19 cases this past week and no new hospitalizations. Mathews only added 14 new cases of the disease this past week and two new hospitalizations for a total of 20 since the pandemic began.Virginia has seen a steady decline in new cases and is experiencing 1,700 new cases per day over a seven-day average, the Three Rivers Health District announced Monday. Hospitalization rates have also dropped in the state to 50 percent of levels experienced in mid-January, which is less than 1,500 new hospitalizations per day.
