100th birthday

Gertrude B. Hurst celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday, April 1, at her home in Port Haywood, surrounded by family and friends. A native of Gwynn’s Island, she was married to Willie B. Hurst, now deceased, and had two sons, Bob, deceased, and Bill. Other family members include her daughter-in-law, Nancy Hurst, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and two great-great-step-grandchildren. She is retired postmaster at Port Haywood, and when her health permitted, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, traveling with post office buddies, shopping, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. She is a member of Saint Paul Comfort Church, the Eastern Star, and Mathews County Woman’s Club.
