$100,000 planning grant approved for Middle Peninsula Airport

A $100,000 grant from the Growth and Opportunity for Virginia (GO Virginia) fund has been approved for site planning around the Middle Peninsula Airport in Mattaponi.
Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced the grant on Friday. According to a release from the governor’s office, the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission will use the grant to evaluate and accelerate development of a 368-acre industrial site at the airport.
“This publicly owned site has potential to support businesses in the maritime, forest products, manufacturing and resiliency-related sectors,” the release stated.
The airport site evaluation was one of eight projects to receive more than $2.9 million in the GO Virginia funds. These are aimed at fostering talent development, economic acceleration and regional industry growth, the report said.
In addition to the awarded GO Virginia funding, the eight awarded projects will leverage an additional $6.1 million in local and non-state funding.
