The Mathews High School jayvee softball team struggled at the bat on Friday, losing to King William, 7-2.
Although the Cavaliers’ pitcher was not dominant, she was still able to strike out nine, including five caught looking. With bases loaded, the girls struck out three times.
Amanda Greene had great control, walking only three while striking out five. Nikki Pierson and Kaitlin Eriksen each went 2-for-4 with two singles.
The girls will play a doubleheader at West Point today. The girls’ last game will be at home Tuesday against Middlesex, starting at 5 p.m.
