Mathews boys place first in track meet

MHS picks up two wins in softball; improves to 11-3
In a good test for the upcoming Tidewater District meet, Mathews traveled to West Point last week to compete against King William, Middlesex and the host Pointers.
Mathews girls ended up placing third, while the boys came in first by a margin of over 40 points. Mathews boys dominated nearly every event, scoring 105 team points, while the second-place squad received only 58.
Leading the way for Mathews was P.J. Roye, who ran the 100 meter dash in 11.19 seconds, had a distance of 39’5” in the triple jump, ran the 200m dash in 23.92 seconds and cleared 19’8” in the long jump.
Also competing well was Jamie van Emmerik, who finished the two-mile run in 11:13. Hakeem Blake placed first in the 300m hurdles with a time of 47.19 seconds.
Other standouts included Andrew Hopkins, Darius Dixon, Garrett Fosdyck, Kevin Dixon and Russell Reed. The top competitor for the MHS girls was Brianna Miales, who placed first in the 400m dash with a time of 1:05, took second in the high jump (4’4”) and finished the 200m dash in 29.45 seconds.
Also competing well were Ashley Sale, Crystal Kirby and Brittney Carter.
The Devils travel return to West Point today.
