Lady golfers hold contest at Piankatank course

Winners of the Piankatank River Ladies Golf Association’s captain’s choice “Play with the Pro” competition, held on May 1 at the Hartfield course, were:
First flight—Pat Olson, Betsy Ripley, Bonnie Norton and C.B. Peterson (69). Second flight—Jeanne Rogers, Kay Uhler, Linda Healy and June James (69). Third flight—Lindy Hatch, Isabelle Bunch, Cricket Call and Carol Sennott (70).
The “Rally for the Cure” Tournament will be held today at the Piankatank River Golf Club. Both men and women are welcome. For more information, call 776-6516.
On April 30, the Cardinal Clipper Women’s Golf Association held a “throw out two holes each nine, no handicap” event at the Newport News Golf Course. Winners were:
First flight—Karen Gorin (first place, 61), Lindy Hatch (second place, 65) and Elaine Moser (third place, 65). Second flight—Patricia Olson (first place, 67), Carolyn Felling (second place, 68) and Jeanette Keenan (third place, 70). Third flight—Avis Ketchum (first place, 75), Connie Harris-Lennox (second place, 76) and Joanne Zimmer (third place, 77).
On April 15, Karen Gorin of Hartfield, scored a hole-in-one on the par-three, #17 hole at Two Rivers Country Club in Williamsburg, while playing in a team match tournament. She used a choked-down 3 hybrid for the 126-yard shot. Kelly Lowe of Urbanna, was her ecstatic partner and witness.
